Do you struggle with this? Okay, only you and 6 billion other people then!!
I’m talking specifically about in the context of Weight Loss = Fat Burning and the whole ingredient list of exercising, the mind set required, Lifestyle changes as well as the dieting.
What is Motivation?
I mean we hear the word a lot but do you actually fully understand what it is / means? If you don’t then by understanding it a little deeper, it will allow YOU to be MORE Empowered in this area, make sense? So let’s delve in to what Motivation IS so that by better understanding it, we may actually USE and APPLY it…
Motivation is a Duality of Inspiration and Desperation.
Motive by itself is defined as ‘a reason for doing something’.
When Emotion is added to the motive i.e. you are ‘Inspired’ … or you are in a state of ‘despair’ … then the motive itself – transforms – in to ‘Motiv–ation’.
Meaning the motive is now ACTION-ED! because you have added Emotion ( Energy linked to motion = E+motion ) to a motive.
Did you get that?!
When you are motivated – you are driven, you are going to move heaven and hell in in order to make something happen. This is very helpful when attempting to change your weight wouldn’t you agree?
If you are struggling to get yourself motivated in any context – then you need to add the emotion of inspiration, meaning get INSPIRED by something, focus on the PLEASURE it will be bringing you or, operate from the Emotion of despair, meaning, when you are moved by the PAIN that something causes you. You will then have Motivation.
The most Powerful Motivation is when you have the carrot and the stick driving you / propelling you at lightning like speed in the direction you want to go. Inspiration is the carrot in-front of you teasing you and the stick is the Desperation whipping your ass from behind…
Let me give you an example…
If OK magazine phoned you tomorrow and said …
“Hello Casandra, we would like to do a full cover story on you for our readers, we will be over in 16 days to take the photo shoot, good bye”.
Tell me out loud – would you just carry on as usual, ‘unmotivated’ and plodding along, or, would you SUDDENLY find an IMMENSE amount of buried capability and resources, and with these powers you would probable find the ‘time and energy’ to carry out exercise correct?!
Actually – you would probably exercise 3 x every day!!!!! What about your diet? You would probably starve yourself for the WHOLE 2 weeks AND keep to it despite extreme hunger and difficulty, am I correct?
The POINT is that given a healthy dose of ‘Consequence’ and have that STICK in your mind every minute for 2+ weeks, creates this thing we affectionately label MOTIVATION.
KNOWING that 100,000’s of people worldwide would be looking at YOUR body, semi naked, would terrify you right?
It would also be SO EXCITING and DREAM LIKE that you would have a rather LARGE carrot and a rather LONG stick to propel you forwards 120%!
You should know that you inherently have all the resources you need to both Successfully lose weight and keep the weight off permanently, right now in side you. Even with limited knowledge and experience, you could still potentially pull it off.
The reason you don’t, is not that you can’t, rather that you have not tapped into those resources. Primarily because you don’t have the need in place first ( yea you want the weight loss BUT HOW BADLY!!!!!! ). It’s not about can you it’s about will you! WILL YOU comes back to the Motivation or the lack thereof.
Make the stakes high enough, press the right buttons and you would make something happen right!
So if you are missing this vital ingredient then you need to seriously ‘find’ some.
HOW you ask?
You need to create pressure on yourself.
Either from the good ( reward ) or the bad ( repercussion ) or both.
Committing to OTHER PEOPLE around you about your body weight changes is one way, Take this to social media so that even more people know what your commitments are is even more useful. Only the brave will do this. Do you see how this would keep you on track verses just having you look after you since there is little or none outside Consequence?
What’s another way to achieve this? Can you think of any?
In the short time I have your attention here for I cannot give a long lecture on psychology as most people already shy away from this sometimes ’uncomfortable’ topic and so I am attempting to create balance with that but still mentioning it.
My overall aim is to raise your Conscious Awareness of this. If I can begin the ball rolling, then I hope to instigate a response from you to keep the ball rolling. To think about this critical area of Motivation and how YOU can find a way to take advantage of it.
If you’re getting married in 3 months it’s easy right – you will be in shape no doubt about it. But you can’t get married all the time!!
You could get in shape for your holiday BUT you can’t go on holiday all the time either!
So what CAN you do as a constant?
One way is to raise your Conscious Awareness. This will go a LONG way to achieving this outcome, but sadly as mentioned, akin to getting the ball rolling, it won’t KEEP it moving by itself.
Maybe one way is to take your HEALTH seriously. At least more seriously than you currently do.
What I am saying is on the whole, in your WHOLE Life, making Health a priority would go a very long way to accomplishing your desired weight goal and shape.
Imagine if HEALTH was in the top 3 of your Life’s priority’s. Your moving toward values list as such.
If absolutely EVERYTHING was filtered through the concept of Health – every single thought you ever had in your mind, every single feeling your ever felt in and through your body, every single action ( behaviour ) you ever took in the external world.
Would things change?!?!
Do you see how your Weight would automatically factor in to ALL that? Do you see how your body would AUTOMATICALLY thus change over time?
Prioritising Health would be a Significant step in the right direction, to achieving initially a Weight reduction AND then Managing to maintain that result for a long time / Permanently.
Of course your Health would improve too! ( just mentioning the obvious to see if your paying attention!! )
Find something to commit to, find something bigger than yourself to make you do the things you know you should, find something that genuinely stokes your FIRE!
Like the horse in the picture at the beginning of this blog – get the FIRE burning and feed off the steam as a source of ENERGY that can burn anything down that gets in your way…
