I am a big advocate of weight management verses just weight loss. After all, I hazard a guess that you don’t lose weight expecting and hoping to put the weight back on! Dreading putting it back on sure, but not wanting too right!
However that is what happens for around 95% of people who try to lose weight, 95%, of the time.
The real challenge people have is not so much the losing off the weight. The challenge the same individuals have is in the second instance – keeping the weight OFF, thus I wanted to help people manage the situation, not repeat the same cycle needlessly again and again and again!
The traditional approach isn’t effective primarily because of 3 reasons …
For most people, the experience of losing weight is mostly a negative one.
Once the initial excitement and will power period are over, it becomes mundane to take the same restrictive actions over and over, very soon they lose their appeal and old habits very easily – too easily – come back, creeping in undetected or more likely – conveniently ignored! until you have stopped doing anything action related pertaining to either losing more weight or maintaining the weight already lost.
This self sabotage is not a defect of a person’s personality, nor is it a weakness. It IS nothing more than a person’s internal compass – beliefs, values, rules, feelings, habits, anchors, fears and auto pilot, that are ‘set’ in a certain way.
If your present wiring and these conditioned responses are not modified to reflect a new body weight– then any change will be sabotaged eventually, or changes will be only temporary or for some they may be able to sustain the change for a longer period but not actually enjoy it and thus will spend a large portion of every day ‘resisting‘ the food they really do want and ‘making‘ themselves / begrudgingly go to the gym or hell as they may call it!
To get ( attain ) and then keep ( maintain ) a new body weight requires new behaviours and feelings and thoughts and effects etc… that go alongside the Life style you have ( style in which you chose to live your Life ).
Anything in conflict with your current Lifestyle – will – create a disturbance and that will create alarm bells in your brain ( unconsciously ) and the whole thing can come tumbling to the floor.
A 2nd major reason traditional weight loss is largely ineffective is because people – society as a whole, have not be taught ‘how’ to manage weight loss.
All we hear in magazines, on T.V, on the web, in books, from Government, through weight loss advertising in fact anywhere and everywhere is weight LOSS weight LOSS weight LOSS AND more weight LOSS. Rarely are we exposed to dealing with the lifestyle changes NOW needed. How often do YOU hear about weight management? about maintaining the result now that you have attained it?
Rare or never would you agree! If you don’t know how to do something correctly – how likely is it that you would do it correctly! Other than hitting potluck, it is a 1 in 10,000 chance.
What happens if you teach someone just 1 part, of a 2 part process? That person will never be able to progress past step 1 and thus will be locked in to a never ending loop! This is part intentional by the powers of the weight loss industry as a whole.
Have you fallen pray to this? Repeating step 1 ( losing weight ) and only maintaining it for a short term just to put it all back again, then after an interlude you run – the same doomed pattern – again?!! ( and again … )
Failing to maintain a loss of weight is not the result of a character flaw or a weakness of your personalise, it is nothing more than a lack of resources that you have not got because you have not been taught or exposed to them in your Life.
If you stop for a second and think about your own experience, you may see that the challenge you have is the maintaining of the result, not in the producing of the result ( a loss of weight ) itself, yes losing weight can be made better! that is for sure but that is not the biggest problem, the keeping the weight OFF, maintaining that result – is the KEY.
If YOU added up ALL the weight you have cumulatively dropped over your life time on weight loss attempts, it may be more than your total weight today! IF all you ever had done was MAINTAIN each result you would have the ideal weight long ago and likely wouldn’t have been on any weight loss regime for years!
As you can hopefully see, losing weight and keeping the weight off is much much more than just dieting and doing exercise you ‘hate to do‘ … that 1 dimensional approach will rarely work long term.
A 3rd reason is the weight loss industry as a whole, the powers that be that profit from misdirection!

Why exercise? because this is absolutely – without any doubt whatsoever – the key to an effective fat burn effect.
Think about it for just a second or two … if you want to lose weight, all you need to do is not eat or eat less – ‘diet‘ in other words which, in the loose sense of the word is a – restriction of calories. THAT does not constitute a fat burn effect. It DOES represent a situation where your body will burn all types of tissue to counteract the calorie deficit. Meaning loss of mostly Healthy muscle tissue and thus loss of intra-cellular ( Healthy ) water lost, as well as some / minimal fat tissue.
How then – do you ensure the Healthy tissues remains ( muscle & water ) yet you burn fat??? Is that even possible you may ask?!
Answer = Absolutely YES
How? = Movement. Otherwise called exercise.
When you are active the muscles of your body are stimulated and in the simplest way of understanding it – the body holds on to it / because it needs it ( because your moving ), logic is logic right! Even in a calorie deficit ( to a certain extent ). If too little calories are consumed though then logic is logic again – even muscle tissue cant remain despite being used and thus needed, which is another reason why traditional dieting is a disaster waiting to happen BECAUSE UNDER-SUPPLY OF CALORIES CAN RESULT IN MUSCLE LOSS – THIS IS YOUR METABOLISM AND NEEDS TO BE MAINTAINED AND STIMULATED NOT LOWERED! )
So to summarise all of the above – if you exercise (exercise correctly by the way for fat burn, not fitness, most people who want to lose weight end up doing all sorts of bizarre exercise regimes that are very much geared toward fitness orientation not fat burn effect ) while restricting calories in some measured / controlled degree, then, the tissue burned has to be ( the body has no choice ) very much mostly fat tissue.
Movement (exercise) = stimulation to all metabolic tissues = maintenance and the stimulation of existing tissue = increased metabolic rate = increased fat burning!!!
So exercising is really your very best friend when it comes to Weight loss & Management!
Getting used to that idea and finding an exercise that you genuinely like – is a difficult matter for most people and one of the major hurdles / tumbling blocks for anyone wanting to shift weight and keep it off. Statistics and data confirm over and over again that most people don’t like to exercise.
THIS MUST BE HANDLED OTHERWISE LONG TERM WEIGHT MANAGEMENT IS GOING TO ELUDE YOU.

Most people do exercise they don’t enjoy and this is one of the key reasons why weight loss is difficult to be maintained! As an example, dieting is a poor approach believe it not, only a small handful of people that I have ever Coached has ‘gone on a diet’ for a very specific reason but 99% have not. There are many ways to achieve a calorific alteration – that leads to an increased metabolic rate – that leads to fat burning!
Proteins for example are more metabolic than carbohydrates. Even though they contain almost identical calories gram for gram. Substituting carb foods for protein foods is an effective way to alter the chemistry effect and subsequently – burn more fat off.
Likewise, Healthy dietary fats help with the fat burn effect and bad fats contribute to the fat storing on your body. Would be useful to know which fat is which right!

How much should you eat per day?
Should you eat late at night?

In case you do not know my history, and would like to know what classes me as having expertise in the area of weight loss / management, here is a brief rundown of my past in the weight loss Industry:
My career in the weight loss Industry professionally stems back to 1989!! ( actually it goes further than that even ). I have been a Gym Instructor, a Personal Trainer, a Health Consultant, a Weight Management club operator and in the latter years a Weight Management Consultant.
After leaving the Personal Trainer arena in 2007, I opened up a Weight Management club in St Albans Hertfordshire in 2008. This was not a gym, nor a weight loss centre. It was a members only / private facility for women, I wanted a place where women who were looking to lose weight in the first instance but keep more importantly wanted to KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF could come to get that help. I did not want to be just another weight loss guru or weigh loss centre.
I believe this is the answer people are desperate for so like all my Life Coaching philosophy – I went about creating a model for people to work with / from. Hence the name of my Company back then ‘Easy Weight Management‘… I wanted to empower the women at the club with wisdom and knowledge that would enable them to lose the weight easily, and then easily keep it off for as long as they wish. Over 500 women passed through our doors in under 3 years.
After the Success of the club I left in 2010 to pursue the same mission as a private consultant. Firstly to the public arena and from there my work moved in to the private sector where it mostly continues to this day in this field. Private just means individuals who are not members of the public so to speak, so people in film, T.V, politics, music artists, VIP etc…
Some people get confused about my job title role, so to clarify, I am a Life Coach. When a client approaches me however for specific help in weight loss and management, that is when, under the heading of a Life Changing Coach, I put my ‘Weight Management Consultant hat back on’.
